IslandWood Teacher Professional Development Workshop in Woodinville

On August 9th, seven teachers and educators ventured to the Brightwater Educational Center in Woodinville to explore local environmental phenomena to anchor within their classroom science units. Together, teams dove into their understandings and applications of Next Generation Science Standards’ “three dimensional” science learning and Science and Engineering Practices.

Teachers and educators participate in an observational investigation, noticing when they incorporate Science and Engineering Practices and Cross-Cutting Concepts

Teams break out to discuss and brainstorm how Science and Engineering Practices can be integrated into their local schoolyard phenomena

Participants left this workshop with ideas and examples on how to incorporate these topics and practices in tangible, accessible ways.
