Community Mapping with Crosscutting Concepts

On February 2nd, 22 teachers and educators spent the morning at Cascade View Elementary School in Tukwila learning and practicing how the use of crosscutting concepts and climate related standards can be supported by assets in their local community Teachers left with new strategies and ideas on how to locate and incorporate their own neighborhood assets.

This half day workshop was focused on helping teachers identify and map local assets that could enhance, or be the center of, their science curriculums. In a follow up survey, 100% of responding teachers reported that they left with understanding of how to use community asset mapping to connect their community to classroom content and 92% felt capable identifying community assets related to a specific topic or crosscutting concept.
