Join Front & Centered, ClimeTime, and community partners for a 2-day workshop intended to foster deeper and more meaningful collaborations between community members, youth, and teachers to co-create learning resources that help understand climate change through the lens of climate and environmental justice.

Teachers who complete the 2-day workshop will receive 10 clock hours (6 regular, 4 STEM).

The Community Education in Action program is a collaborative series of workshops to exchange ideas and promote the co-creation of climate justice and environmental justice learning resources in partnership with community-based organizations, ESD staff, teachers, and youth, using the Just Transition framework as a guiding model. By facilitating dialogue and developing resources with stakeholders who have different backgrounds and experiences, participants will develop innovative and authentic ways to address climate change and climate injustice in their communities. The potential learning resources could include lesson plans, activities, guides, videos, and other materials that could be used in different settings (schools, community-led programs, after-school programs, etc.).

Participants will learn what a just transition is, explore some examples of community-led projects, as well as some existing K-12 educational resources (pedagogy articles, tips, existing lessons, videos), to then discuss issues and interests in their communities to co-create resources that can bring awareness and inspire other students and community members to address climate and environmental injustices. The intention is that participants will learn from each other what they see as injustices linked to climate change and incorporate their different experiences and expertise in the co-creation of resources.

We will offer meals, snacks, and beverages throughout the event. We will also have prizes for different activities!
