
Book Study Text, “What If We Get It Right?” by Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson
Throughout May and June, 12 educators, parents and high school students participated in a virtual book study centered on Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnsonโs insightful book, โWhat If We Get It Right?โ.
Interspersed with heartfelt stories, artistic pieces, and interviews with experts in the field of climate change, the reading brings an action-oriented and joyful perspective to the very challenging work of climate justice and climate change. The book study fostered a comprehensive and relevant discussion, engaging teachers statewide through a diverse range of perspectives from youth activities, farmers, NASA researchers, science journalists, architects, tech executives, and filmmakers.
Discussions spanned from individual action initiatives to research on the investment strategies of teacher pension funds. Participants exchanged collective knowledge and recommended local and statewide resources. Between sessions, participants engaged in an online discussion board, reflecting on readings and responding to one anotherโs insights.
