What was tried in the classroom?
Our team purchased a number of climate related books which we read during the month of April, focusing on ways we can help the earth as kinders and 1st graders.
We also had West Valley Outdoor Learning Center come to Hamblen to present three assemblies about reptiles. Our students talked about how important it is for us to take care of our planet so that the reptiles have a place to call home.
One teacher used a compost bin to teach her students about repurposing lunch scraps instead of throwing them in the garbage. She then gave these scraps to her chickens to eat.
How’d it go?
It went well! Our classes loved our books and discussions. Our assemblies were a huge hit and our colleague’s chickens produce the best eggs!
