Climate Emotions Expressed Through Art in the Classroom

What was tried in the classroom?

I was looking for a read aloud or a video that was kid friendly explaining what climate change was and how it is affecting humans and life on Earth. I found two on YouTube and also explained some ideas for artwork that students can do. Some examples I shares included text structure to draw and color what their feelings were about climate change, some problems and solutions, causes and effects, before and after, etc.

How’d it go?

Students were given a blank paper and some students divided it in two or three parts. They drew what they felt was happening to the Earth from the effects of climate change. Some students drew the Earth on fire, people picking up garbage on the beach, angry character cutting down trees and another happy character planting a tree. Some included the effects on their artwork of climate change for the before and after. Damages forests with cut down or burned trees. They understood the directions and drew their ideas to express their emotions.
