Communicating Climate Change to Educators and Communities: A STEM Teaching Tools Writing Collaboration
Join the University of Washington for a writing collaboration to expand the STEM Teaching Tools collection around issues of climate science and NGSS. This series of workshops and small group writing meetings will bring together educators, experienced writers, and content support people who are deeply involved with science education to build shared resources and dive deeply into opportunities and problems that affect their work.
We are looking to find writers who come from a diverse range of experiences and perspectives across Washington state. In particular we are seeking folks who have proven experience in serving the learning needs of marginalized youth in their contexts.
Possible writing topics include:
- Addressing the “political” in climate change teaching and learning
- Designing climate change learning for action
- Equity and teaching climate change
- Promoting agency in climate change communication/learning
- Collaborations between community learning and classroom learning
- Other topics of interest to participants defined during initial workshop
Workshops will help participants learn how to write STEM Teaching Tools, share challenges as writing teams engage in the work and share products in a gallery walk at the end of the series.

Writing teams will meet at times between workshop events or find asynchronous writing options that work for all members of the team. Team members will collectively coauthor a STEM teaching tool. We anticipate a total of five writing teams. Participants will be expected to attend all workshops and contribute a total of 6-7 hours of other meeting and co-writing time during the series.
Each co-authors will receive a stipend of $400 upon completion of their STEM Teaching Tool
