Join Pacific Education Institute (PEI) and our ClimeTime partners to take a deep dive into forest management and wildfire ecology, considering how these topics intersect with climate change. We will be focusing on the northeastern WA region and exploring how these topics are most relevant to our part of the state. Participants will learn about the Solutions Oriented Learning Storyline format, designed around six guiding principles: Indigenous perspectives, local anchoring phenomena, culturally responsive instructional practices, NGSS three-dimensional student growth measures, and a solutions-oriented approach to managing forests as a climate change mitigation strategy. Participants will also explore carbon drawdown relating to forest management to support opportunities for elevating student voice in the classroom. This in-person opportunity will be held between the Wildland Cooperative for the “classroom” portion and the Mead School District forest for our field activities (between Colbert Elementary and Mountainside Middle School).*
While K-12 educators are welcome to attend, the lessons/activities were developed and aligned to grade specific state standards as follows:
Fire: K, 3, MS, HS
Forest Management: 5, MS, HS
