 Integrating Climate Literacy Into the 6th Grade Classroom

Description:
The program will provide PD for teachers to develop integrated science lessons, as well as providing them access to Gonzaga’s Climate Fellows who provide hands-on science lessons, aligned to the grade six curriculum, in classrooms. Grade 6 teachers will receive 6 STEM clock hours:

• Four hours of in-person professional development on site at Gonzaga,
• One hour on site PD support at the teachers’ respective schools, and
• One hour for an end of year follow-up session

Teachers will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of the lessons that the Clime Time Fellows will teach on-site, as well as the materials that go into the kits to support the hands on activity. Participating teachers will be invited to engage in this co-planning and design with Gonzaga students, staff and faculty.

Event Notes
Hosted by Gonzaga University Center for Climate, Society, and the Environment and supported by a grant from ClimeTime, this professional learning cohort will help grade 6 teachers transitioning to middle school to more confidently incorporate climate literacy into their classes.
